What is Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)?

 

Ground Penetrating RadarGround Penetrating Radar (GPR) is one of the latest technologies supporting Geological, Construction, Environmental, and Re-Construction projects.  GPR allows for real time visualization of the internal structures of concrete, subsurface features, and geological systems.  Blood Hound skilled technicians have used GPR to identify underground structures ranging from UST’s, plastic water and sewer lines, septic tanks, and unmarked grave sites.

A GPR system emits an EM (Electromagnetic) pulse in to the ground or concrete and records echoes of the emitted signal.  The system builds an image from the echoes. This is the raw radar image.  The odometer triggers the radar and keeps a regular interval of sampling of the radar signal. It also provides the position. The odometer allows the cart speed to vary but keeps the data collection constant. When the cart stops data collection stops.

Time measurement is very accurate. Time is used to calculate the depth. To calculate the depth you need to know the speed of the radar signal. This is why you select the different soil types.

This sets the speed of the radar signal for the depth calculation.  This method has variance of accuracy which can help manage risk, providing an increase in job savings and a reduction of liability.
