APRIL IS SAFE DIGGING MONTH.

It seems obvious that you should Call 811 before you begin to break ground for a large project like building a house or doing major excavation or construction that requires that you break ground, but did you know that even if you're planting a tree or digging to put new fence posts in that you still need to call before you dig?

ONE CALL DOESN'T MARK IT ALL. MAKE THE 2ND CALL FOR PRIVATE UNDERGROUND UTILITIES.

What's important for you to know is that 811 doesn't mark all utility lines. 811 is your first call, but the 2nd call is the one that plays a critical role in the safety of your job to mark all remaining utilities (1-888-858-9830). 811 marks the public, local owned utility lines, but as an example, your public water line becomes private after your water meter - same with your gas line. Leaving that to chance by not dialing a private utility locator like Blood Hound is very dangerous.

Something as minor as digging to spruce up your landscaping could be the cause of the cable being knocked out on your entire street because you've accidentally struck a cable line. Or even worse; a gas line could be hit which could cause major disaster.

Listen as Kevin Campbell discusses the importance of calling before you dig, and the steps that need to be taken to ensure that you and your contractors have covered all the bases to keep you, your family, and your neighbors safe.

About halfway through the video, you'll hear Kevin mention that Blood Hound will be at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace Golf Course for a press conference to demonstrate using Air Vac Excavation to dig a hole as well as to further educate the public on the reasons to call before digging as well as to talk more about the Yankee Street widening project in Centerville, Ohio. The press conference will be held April 8, at 10:00 a.m. Check it out on the Centerville City Calendar.
