Blood Hound is working with our USIC Family of Companies to send a very personal message to the industry and the general public this Locator Safety Awareness Week (LSAW) #WatchForUs

LSAW is coming up next month: April 22-26.  It's a time to generate awareness about a subject that is very near and dear to our organization and the industry.  In years past we have focused a lot of energy and emphasis on our internal safety operations and what our technicians can do to ensure they get home safely EVERY night.  However, this year, we are taking the message to the public: "Watch For Us" in parallel with the National Asphalt Pavement Association's 2019 National Work Zone Awareness Week campaign.

The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) 2018 Preliminary Data projected the highest number of pedestrian traffic fatalities since 1990.  Equally notable is the National Highway Safety Association report that 35% of pedestrian fatalities occur on local streets.  In 2018, five states (Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia and Texas) accounted for almost half (46%) of all pedestrian deaths during the first six months of 2018.  Some may argue that population or population density play a factor in the higher number of pedestrian deaths in these states - and they would not be wrong to do so.  However, more populous areas only mean increased opportunity to incedent and greater need for awareness.

Fleet vehicles, orange safety cones and bright, reflective clothing are just a few high-visibility indicators that should alert drivers that locators are performing mark-outs in the vicinity.  Please, follow us on social media for more about how, together, we can create a greater awareness to ensure ALL locators get home safely.
